Morocco and Ethiopia Launch Coalition for Clean Energy Access at UN Climate Summit

Creation of the Coalition for Sustainable Energy Access. The CEO of the Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy (MASEN), Mustapha Bakkoury, made this announcement on Monday in New York, as part of the "Climate Action" Summit. Princess Lalla Hasnaa, President of the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection, also addressed the audience through a message.
The Coalition for Sustainable Energy Access will be jointly led by Morocco and Ethiopia. It will focus on access to energy through massive use of clean energy.
This Coalition, according to Le matin, is one of about ten initiatives selected from a hundred proposals submitted by various countries and international institutions to the UN Secretariat.
And if they were selected during the New York summit, it is because they present more advantages for the fight against global warming.
Mustapha Bakkoury, in presenting the initiative alongside Sahle-Work Zewde, President of Ethiopia, stressed that they are convinced of the commitment of nearly 80 countries and public and private institutions alongside them, and that the UN’s ambition not to leave anyone behind is achievable by 2030.
The Coalition also offers its technical assistance to countries wishing to accelerate the deployment of renewable energies, the objective being to ensure the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) number 7.
Le Matin reports that the two countries promise to replicate the best practices and existing models in other countries. The effective launch of the Coalition is scheduled for early 2020, when the first concrete actions will take shape.
