Morocco's Amrabat: 'We're Technically on Par with Belgium' Ahead of World Cup Clash

Moroccan international, Nordin Amrabat, who plays for AEK Athens FC, spoke about the assets of the national team currently at the World Cup, stating that "technically, Morocco is not inferior to Belgium."

Referring to the performances recorded in the preparation matches by Walid Regragui’s protégés, the brother of Sofyan Amrabat indicated in an interview with VoetbalPrimer that the national team is showing a renewal since the dismissal of Vahid Halilhodžić.

"It was immediately visible against Chile and Paraguay. The organization and the game are much better and it is much more compact. Under the former national coach, it was sometimes a Swiss cheese with holes and long balls forward. I’m glad they fired the former coach," he said.

Discussing the strengths the national coach has for his mission, the Athens player said the national team is full of exceptional players. He cited as examples Hakim Ziyech, Yassine Bounou, Noussair Mazraoui and Achraf Hakimi. "We have two world-class right-backs playing for clubs like Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain," he stressed.

Nordin Amrabat also welcomed the policy of gradual renewal of the squad, expressing his joy at seeing more and more young players choosing Morocco, like Bilal El Khannous from KRC Genk and Anass Zaroury (Burnley).

As for the World Cup, and especially group F in which Morocco is placed, the midfielder indicated that the current team has many qualities. Against top 10 teams in the world like Croatia and Belgium, the Atlas Lions will be able to create a surprise. "Technically, we are not really inferior to those countries, but in today’s football, there is more than that," he concluded.
