Morocco Allows Personal Medication Import for Travelers, Customs Rules Explained

The issue of importing personal medications often arises for travelers visiting Morocco. The Moroccan Customs Administration has provided a duty-free customs franchise for personal medications. Here are the key points to know.
During a stay in Morocco, it is possible to import your medications without paying customs duties, provided they are for strictly personal use. This system aims to facilitate the stay of people under medical treatment, by avoiding penalizing them financially.
However, some administrative formalities are necessary. It is essential to have medical documents attesting to the necessity of the treatment. A medical certificate or a prescription in the traveler’s name will be fully accepted.
A sworn statement is also required. Through this, the traveler undertakes to use the imported medicines only for their own needs and to re-export the unused quantity at the end of their stay. The standard form is available at the customs office at the border, as well as on the website of the Customs Administration: www.douane.gov.ma.
This franchise only concerns medicines imported for personal use. Any import for commercial purposes, such as sale or distribution, is subject to different regulations. In this case, an authorization from the Department of Health must be obtained and the applicable duties and taxes must be paid.
