Morocco Allows Food Deliveries to Prisoners for Eid Al-Adha Despite COVID Restrictions

Even though visits to prisons are suspended due to the Covid-19 pandemic, an exception is planned as part of the celebration of Eid Al-Adha. The General Delegation for Prison Administration and Reintegration (DGAPR) authorizes the families of inmates in all penitentiary institutions to bring food supplies from the second day of Eid Al-Kébir.
The DGAPR specifies that families will only be allowed to hand over the basket of food to their relatives among the inmates, "without visits or deposits of money, clothes or other objects". Eid Al-Adha is a time of sharing, conviviality and solidarity. The prison institution thought it would be good to allow inmates in penitentiary institutions to "preserve family relationships and ties".
The Directorate asks the penitentiary institutions to offer all the necessary facilities to the inmates to contact their families in order to inform them of the scheduled appointment and the conditions put in place. Similarly, it invites all the families of the inmates to cooperate so that the operation takes place "in strict compliance with the preventive measures against Covid-19 and for the health safety of the prison population".
