Morocco Allocates $108 Million to Boost Imam Salaries and Benefits

The government announced on Monday that it has allocated the sum of 1.093 billion dirhams to improve the situation of imams, preachers and religious officials.
This amount will be devoted to bonuses, universal health coverage (229 million dirhams), and qualifying training (110 million dirhams), said the Minister of Habous and Islamic Affairs, Ahmed Toufiq, to parliament.
The value of the bonuses allocated to religious officials ranges from 2,300 to 2,600 dirhams for those who only practice the imamate, and between 2,500 and 3,700 dirhams for those who are in charge of the imamate and other tasks, he specified.
Regarding the benefits, the minister said that 65% of imams, preachers and religious officials benefit from support and 35% have official housing, noting that they all have access to basic and supplementary medical coverage as well as social benefits in case of disability, death or marriage.
