Morocco-Algeria Border Opens Briefly as Six Moroccans Return Home After Prison Release

Six young Moroccans crossed, yesterday Wednesday, July 17, 2024, the Zouj Bghal border post towards Morocco, free after serving their sentence in Algerian prisons.
It is Hassan Ammari, president of the Association for Assistance to Migrants in Difficult Situations in Oujda, who confirmed the release of these young people. "Their handover was carried out on the basis of a valid passport," he specified.
The six young people, from the cities of Oujda, Casablanca, Kasba Tadla, Taza and Fez, have returned to Moroccan soil after stays of varying durations in Algerian prisons, particularly in Tlemcen.
Ammari’s association closely follows the cases of many young Moroccans detained in Algeria. "Hundreds of young people are in administrative detention awaiting deportation," he stressed.
"This procedure is hampered by several technical and procedural difficulties," he explained, specifying that "many young Moroccans are in pre-trial detention and awaiting trial".
