Morocco Aims to Train 30,000 Craft Apprentices by 2030, Boosting Artisan Sector

The Ministry of Tourism, Crafts and Social and Solidarity Economy aims to train 30,000 craft apprentices by 2030. This was announced on Monday by Minister Fatim-Zahra Ammor, in charge of this department.
A first wave of 19,000 apprentices will be trained this year, Fatim-Zahra Ammor said on Monday in response to an oral question from the Istiqlalien group of unity and egalitarianism in the House of Representatives on the preservation and promotion of crafts. The minister in charge of crafts indicated that the number of registrants in the craft centers is continuously increasing, reaching 16,000 in 2023 compared to 12,000 in 2022.
The crafts sector has started its recovery and measures have been taken to strengthen its competitiveness and review its structuring. Regarding the latter point, Fatim Zahra Ammor recalled the establishment of the National Craft Register (RNA) which already has 400,000 registered members, and the adoption of the implementing texts of Law 50.17 relating to the exercise of craft activities, which have made it possible to organize 172 trades.
As for the development of the offer and marketing, it involves among other things the protection of the product and professional training, added the official, mentioning the "Treasures of Moroccan Traditional Arts" program launched in partnership with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). The minister also recalled that 57 young people were trained in six trades in 2023 and that the training will cover ten trades this year.
