Morocco Aims to Revive Tourism Sector with International Travel Conventions

The tourism sector in Morocco was severely affected by the Covid-19 health crisis. With the gradual return to normal, and the measures taken by the government to support and relaunch the sector, the kingdom is slowly but surely regaining its place as the preferred destination for thousands of tourists around the world.
Morocco will host this year the annual conventions of the British and German travel agency associations. An opportunity that Morocco intends to seize to relaunch its tourism, according to Hosteltur. "For the Moroccan National Tourist Office, nothing has been left to chance. A battery of commercial and promotional measures has been prepared," said Adel El Fakir, director of the Office.
The British Tourism Minister, Manuel Butler, announced that this year’s convention of the Association of British Tour Operators and Travel Agents (ABTA) will be held in Marrakech, from October 10 to 12. "Morocco is a very competitive tourist destination," he stressed. And Mark Tanzer, executive director of ABTA, added that Morocco is a "dynamic destination with its rich cultural heritage, warm hospitality and delicious cuisine".

The Association of German Travel Agents and Tour Operators (DRV) also plans to hold part of its convention this year in Morocco, in the coastal town of Taghazout in December, after the Berlin stage in October. Located about 20 kilometers north of Agadir, this fishing village, well known to surfers, will therefore host this event.
According to data from the National Tourism Observatory, nearly thirteen million tourists visited Morocco in 2019, compared to only four million in 2021, the second year of the health crisis. Morocco resumed international flights in February, after closing its airspace at the end of November to limit the rapid spread of the Omicron variant of Covid-19. Last Tuesday, passenger maritime traffic with Spain also resumed, after two years of suspension.
