Morocco Aims to Install 2,500 EV Charging Stations in 3-Year Push for Electric Mobility

Monday 6 February 2023, by Prince

The Inter-Sectoral Professional Association of Electric Mobility (APIME), bringing together the main players in the sector, aims to install 2,500 functional charging stations for electric vehicles across the Moroccan territory within three years.

Newly created, the association aims to support the adoption and development of electric vehicles in Morocco through the short-term installation of these 2,500 functional charging stations throughout the Moroccan territory. These include fast chargers and semi-fast chargers, according to the daily Les Inspirations Eco.

For the president of APIME and CEO of Centrelec, Omar El Harti, information seminars have started to be organized to explain the project to the sector’s players. "We also have the support of manufacturers and installers of charging stations, members of FENELEC (National Federation of Electricity, Electronics and Renewable Energies, editor’s note) and companies that will be responsible for their maintenance. Because it’s not enough to install them, the stations also need to be functional," he specifies.

"We are producing more and more electric vehicles and the production of internal combustion engine vehicles is decreasing. So the share of electric vehicles imported into Morocco will increase. Which means that vehicle importers will have to adapt to the evolution of trends and the increasing requirements in terms of green mobility and energy," says Omar Magoul, CEO of Interworld-africa, organizer of the Green Mobility and Energy Forum, held on February 1 in Casablanca.

APIME, which brings together professionals in electricity, electronics, renewable energies, as well as vehicle importers in Morocco, is working, alongside state actors, to put in place a favorable ecosystem for the rapid development of electric mobility in Morocco.
