Morocco Aims to Become Top 10 Global Tourist Destination After World Cup Success

The Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT) has new ambitions for Morocco. It intends to take advantage of the world’s interest in the destination - thanks to the exploits achieved by the Atlas Lions at the 2022 Qatar World Cup (momentum) - to place it in the top 10 of the most admired destinations.
"We must seize the momentum," insisted its CEO, Adel El Fakir, during the presentation of ONMT’s new action plan for the next three years, the objective of which is to position Morocco in the "Top 10 admired destinations", i.e. the top 10 most admired destinations. The momentum refers to the historic and exceptional feat of the Moroccan team at the World Cup held in Qatar, where the Atlas Lions finished fourth in the competition. This feat has led to an increase in searches for the Moroccan destination on general and travel-specialized search engines. Better, tourist arrivals in Morocco at the end of February and travel revenues compared to 2019 have increased by 17% and 58% respectively, reports La Vie éco. According to ONMT, the national recovery rate is now close to 100%.

"For the next twelve months, Morocco must be in the top 10 of planned destinations and it is around this objective that ONMT’s strategy is built," says the CEO of ONMT. Dubbed "Light in action" in reference to the slogan "Morocco, land of light", this strategy revolves around four strategic axes, the first of which is related to World class marketing, allowing the kingdom to compete with several international destinations, such as Spain or the United Arab Emirates (Dubai).
