Morocco Aims to Attract 500,000 Expat Investors by 2030, Says Minister

The Delegate Minister in charge of Moroccans Living Abroad, Nezha El Ouafi, announces that the government intends to attract 500,000 Moroccans living abroad (MRE) by 2030. They will be "potential investors" in many fields.
During the presentation on Thursday, November 5, of the sectoral budget of her department before the House of Representatives, the minister hinted that this ambition is recorded in "an action plan for the mobilization of 500,000 MRE investors by 2030," she said.
In order to "better succeed in this project, an initiative will soon be implemented for the identification and mobilization by 2030 of nearly 10,000 Moroccan skills abroad against 4,500 people currently." The target? Executives, researchers, businessmen, doctors, lawyers, engineers, university professors, economists, etc.
"It has been decided from now on to expand and mobilize Moroccan skills to contribute to various research and innovation projects in the fields of the environment, renewable energies and sustainable development," said Ms. El Ouafi. In this perspective, there is "an agreement with the Ministry of Finance to simplify the conditions of access to financing from the MDM Invest Fund (Fund for the Promotion of Investments of Moroccans Residing Abroad)," she said.
The Minister of Finance is in charge of managing this fund, which grants credit facilities for MRE investment projects in the fields of industry, hotels, education and health. According to the minister, a support platform for these projects will soon be realized.
