Morocco's Agriculture Minister Surveys Hailstorm Damage in Fès-Meknès Region

Following the violence of the hailstorm last Saturday in Fès-Meknès, the Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development and Water and Forests, Aziz Akhannouch, instructed by King Mohammed VI, carried out a field visit on Thursday.

According to the minister, this visit carried out on royal instructions, is to examine the impacts of this storm on the ground. According to the assessment, 31 communes in the region were affected by this storm, or about 19,000 ha. And the extent of the damage varies between 5% and 80% depending on the crops.

The Ministry of Agriculture adds that measures are being taken to strengthen the means and expand the coverage of anti-hail means.

To recall, Aziz Akhannouch had indicated the day after the storm that provincial committees are in place to examine the support plan through a detailed report on the subject.

The Fès-Meknès region has 6,260 hectares equipped with anti-hail nets subsidized by the Agricultural Development Fund, for an envelope of 310 million dirhams, and 68 anti-hail generators managed by the National Federation of Users of Anti-Hail Generators.
