Morocco's Aerospace Industry Shows Resilience Amid Global Downturn

The Minister of Industry, Trade and Green and Digital Economy, Moulay Hafid Elalamy, assured on Tuesday that the Moroccan aeronautics sector will emerge "stronger" from the Covid-19 health crisis.

On the occasion of the "Rendez-vous de l’industrie aéronautique", Minister Elalamy stated that "the prospects are extremely interesting" for the aeronautics sector and that Morocco has been "resilient during this pandemic period". Presenting the 2020 assessment, the minister indicated that the sector experienced a 10% job loss compared to 43% worldwide and a 29% drop in export turnover compared to 50% internationally.

According to Elalamy, the local integration rate stood at 38%, well above the 35% target set under the Industrial Acceleration Plan (PAI). "Manufacturing 38% of a complete aircraft is quite rare. Highly developed countries do much less because they outsource everywhere, and less developed ones also often do less because they only ensure part of these aircraft," added the minister before continuing, proudly: "Every commercial aircraft flying in the sky of our planet carries at least one part machined in Morocco. This is an essential element that we can be proud of."

During this meeting, during which testimonies from several international players in the aeronautics sector including Boeing, Airbus, Spirit and Safran were broadcast, the participants exchanged on the development of the aeronautics sector in Morocco in the light of the results of the particular year 2020.
