Morocco Advances Major Infrastructure Projects Despite Pandemic Challenges

Despite the health crisis the world is going through, Morocco has maintained the course in the field of infrastructure. A major factor of growth and competitiveness, this sector remains one of the priorities of the kingdom.
During the year 2020, the kingdom has continued the realization of major infrastructure projects. This ensures competitiveness between the different regions and attracts investors. Thus, Morocco has carried out road, maritime, air and rail infrastructure with significant investments.
Morocco has proceeded to launch other large-scale projects such as the Dakhla-Atlantique port and the Tiznit-Dakhla expressway, which are part of the integrated development projects of the southern provinces planned by the new development model put in place by the King, in Laâyoune on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the Green March. This important project will reduce the time and cost of transportation. Thus, the construction sites of this strategic project are progressing normally despite the health crisis.
As for the creation of the new Dakhla-Atlantique port, it comes to meet geostrategic, regional development and objectives related to the fishing sector. To this is added the TGV, Al Boraq, which is already two years old, and which has established itself as a "vector of change" in Morocco. The result of many years of work and mobilization at all levels, Al Boraq experienced real success in 2019 with more than 2.5 million passengers.
Maintaining the efforts made so far in terms of investment in infrastructure in 2021 remains a priority for the kingdom. This helps to support growth and preserve employment. Thus, the year 2021 will be marked by the launch of several projects, including the one that ensures the connection of the new port of Nador West Med under construction and the motorway network.
This project will also favor the consolidation of ongoing construction sites, the continuation of operations whose conventions have been signed in the presence of Mohammed VI, in relation to the upgrading of the road infrastructure of the cities. It is a question of launching the construction work of five large dams in the regions of Marrakech-Safi, Casablanca-Settat, Béni Mellal-Khénifra, Souss-Massa, the Oriental and many other projects.
