Morocco Advances High-Speed Rail Project: Kenitra to Marrakech Line Takes Shape

The National Railway Office (ONCF) is working on the realization of the High Speed Line (LGV) project between Kenitra and Marrakech. Recently, it has launched a call for tenders for the selection of an external quality control laboratory for civil engineering and building works.
The ONCF is looking for a control office that will be responsible for carrying out the external quality control services for all the civil engineering works, awarded to the various companies for the construction of the two-track railway platform as well as the buildings between Kenitra and Marrakech. In this regard, it has launched a call for tenders.
With an estimated total cost of nearly 99.6 million DH, this project is divided into two lots. The first lot concerns the external control of all civil engineering works including earthworks, engineering structures, special structures, the tunnel, while the second lot covers all the works of the station buildings, technical centers and storage centers between Kenitra and Marrakech. The implementation period is 60 months.
Designed for a maximum speed of 350 km/h, the line connecting Kenitra to Marrakech will be operated at 320 km/h, over a distance of about 450 km. It is planned to connect Tangier directly to Marrakech without going through Casablanca. Two routes have been proposed for the train’s arrival in Casablanca. It is also planned that the high-speed train line will pass through an alternative route in Benslimane (the stadium) towards Nouaceur. This will host the establishment of a new station or distribution center.
