Morocco Advances Biomedical Research with New Protections for Study Participants

The government wants to promote medical research. To this end, a new draft decree relating to the implementation of the provisions of Law No. 28-13 on the protection of persons participating in research has been adopted by the Council of Government.
Presented by the Minister of Health, this draft decree aims to set the procedures for withdrawing the consent of persons participating in biomedical research and for recruiting healthy persons who participate in biomedical research, in addition to the procedures for compensation. This project determines the regional committees for the protection of persons participating in biomedical research, their number, and the territorial jurisdiction. It also sets the headquarters of each, the composition and operating procedures of these committees as well as the procedures for appointing their members.
In addition to the conditions for carrying out biomedical research, this bill also determines the procedures for authorization, suspension and withdrawal of authorizations on the sites of biomedical research as well as the procedures for the application for authorization for biomedical research and its modification.
