Morocco to Acquire $250 Million in Advanced US Missiles for F-16 Fleet

Morocco plans to acquire American missiles for its F-16 aircraft, in order to strengthen its armament, the security of its territory, while contributing to regional stability.
Forty AGM-154C Joint Stand Off Weapons (JSOW) missiles. These are the high-tech missiles that Morocco plans to acquire for its F-16 aircraft from Raytheon Missiles & Defense Company, a company based in Tucson, Arizona, and a leader in the production of high-tech missiles. At a total cost of $250 million, the contract also includes a set of support services and equipment to ensure the effective integration of these weapons into the Moroccan armed forces.
The AGM-154C JSOW missiles are precision-guided weapons that allow fighter aircraft to attack heavily defended targets in a variety of conditions, including at night or in poor weather. This acquisition will significantly increase Morocco’s ability to defend its strategic infrastructure, particularly critical maritime routes, and to effectively respond to current and future threats.
According to the U.S. State Department, this sale is very important for U.S. foreign policy and national security. As a major non-NATO ally, Morocco plays a key role in the political and economic stability of North Africa. Providing these weapons will therefore strengthen the kingdom’s security, while contributing to regional stability.
