Morocco Accelerates Investment in High-Speed Internet Infrastructure

In 2020, international Internet bandwidth and data and fixed traffic increased due to the health crisis. Faced with this increase, a major investment in Very High Speed (VHS) infrastructure is essential and the ANRT is already getting to work.
The ANRT recently held a workshop on the pooling and development of Very High Speed (VHS) infrastructure in Morocco, in collaboration with the World Bank and the International Finance Corporation. A meeting that is part of the realization of the General Orientation Note for the development of the telecommunications sector by 2023 (NOG-2023) and which presages the strengthening of competition through appropriate regulation to the challenges of sector development and the establishment of models for pooling existing and future VHS infrastructures, reports Les inspirations Éco.
The organization of this webinar stems from the importance of Very High Speed (VHS) infrastructures further revealed during the Covid-19 pandemic crisis. According to ANRT statistics at the end of 2020, international Internet bandwidth saw an annual increase of 27.26%. The same goes for data and fixed traffic.
Moreover, Very High Speed (VHS) infrastructures represent the technologies that promote high-level speeds, ahead of ADSL speeds. These include cable or fiber optic connections providing access to speeds ranging from 30 Mbit/s to 1 Gbit/s. Thus, despite the efforts already made in terms of Internet penetration in the kingdom, several aspects remain to be explored.
During this webinar, examples of success in this sector were given. This mainly concerns the co-financing of telecommunications infrastructures. In this sense, the investments that can enable the development of VHS and promote good coverage and quality of service in Morocco are not negligible, underlines the daily.
