Morocco Accelerates Green Energy Transition, Aims for 64% Renewable Mix by 2030

Morocco has decided to step up the pace on its projects in the field of renewable energies. The transition to a green economy, scheduled for 2030, could be effective as early as 2025.
A judicious anticipation given the situation. In these projections, the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) indicated that the 42% target for the electricity mix, set for 2020, will be reached in 2022, while the 52% target will be a reality as early as 2025, instead of 2030, reports the weekly La Vie Éco.
Reviewing the various ongoing projects in the field, the newspaper predicts that the share of renewable energies in the electricity mix would be 64.3% in 2030, for an installed capacity of 20,254 MW and a reserve margin of 12.2%.
As an example, the media cites the Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch, who specified during the recent summit of the Middle East Green Initiative (MGI) held in Saudi Arabia, that in view of its commitment to the objectives of the Paris Agreement, Morocco has developed an integrated strategy for low-carbon development by 2050.
In addition, Morocco plans to use nature-based solutions, produce clean energy and develop the green industry, the weekly added.
