Morocco Abstains from UN Vote on Ukraine, Citing Consistent Position

Unlike many countries that voted against Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Morocco chose to abstain. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs explains this in a statement.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Kingdom has decided not to participate in the vote on this resolution, reports the MAP.
This non-participation is in line with the position expressed on February 26 in an initial statement, the ministry said, specifying that it does not mean a change in the position adopted since the beginning of the crisis.
Without explicitly stating the reasons for this abstention, Morocco says it regrets the military escalation that has unfortunately caused hundreds of deaths and thousands of injuries to date and has caused human suffering on both sides, all the more so as this situation impacts all populations and states in the region and beyond.
As a defender of respect for the territorial integrity, sovereignty and national unity of all states, Morocco has called for the continuation and intensification of dialogue and negotiation between the parties to end this conflict and encourages all initiatives and actions to this end.
