Morocco Absent from Jeddah Summit on Syria’s Arab League Reintegration

Several reasons explain Morocco’s exclusion by Saudi Arabia from the meeting on the reintegration of Syria with the Arab League, held on Friday in Jeddah.
Morocco’s exclusion from the Jeddah meeting could be explained by the fact that Rabat leans in favor of Washington’s policy in the current circumstances, while the Gulf states want to adopt a policy that silently opposes American decisions concerning the Middle East, analyzes Middleeastmonitor. The exclusion could be justified by the participation of Algeria in this meeting, the two countries no longer having diplomatic relations for almost two years.
To support its argument, the author of the article points out that Morocco also does not share the current rapprochement of the Gulf countries with Iran, having cut ties with Tehran in 2018 after accusing it of supporting the Polisario Front in Western Sahara. In addition, "Morocco, like Qatar, rejects the return of Syria to the Arab League and did not offer condolences to Damascus after the earthquakes that hit Turkey and Syria in early February, and did not send humanitarian aid to the country."
