Morocco: 446 tons of drugs seized since the beginning of the year, according to the Ministry of the Interior
By the end of August 2025, the Moroccan police forces seized a total of 446 tons of narcotics, including 385 tons of cannabis resin and 61 tons of kif plants, as well as 788 kg of cocaine, 1.04 kg of heroin, and 1,259,662 psychotropic tablets, according to the latest report from the Ministry of the Interior.
In its 2025 activity report submitted to Parliament, the Ministry of the Interior stated that "the various operations have made it possible to dismantle a significant number of criminal networks and seize the means of transport used in their activities, whether they are land (light vehicles, international freight trucks) or maritime (fast "Go-Fast" boats, pleasure craft, jet skis)".
Regarding the "reduction of cultivated areas of illicit cannabis", the report specifies that "as part of the efforts to reduce the supply, the ministry’s services have proceeded to reduce the cultivated areas of illicit cannabis by 85%, from around 134,000 hectares in 2003 to nearly 20,627 hectares in 2025", reaffirming the ministry’s commitment to "ensure that no cannabis-related product is directed towards illicit uses, in order to ensure the correct and effective application of the provisions of this law".
In terms of the fight against international drug trafficking, the ministry stressed that "in accordance with the role assigned to the Ministry of the Interior in the fight against cross-border illicit activities, particularly those related to narcotics, the ministry’s services continue to implement the content of the national drug control strategy according to an integrated approach aimed at reducing the supply by decreasing the cultivated areas of illicit cannabis and encouraging farmers to turn to legal crops".
According to the report, the competent services of the ministry have succeeded in "reducing consumption by strengthening surveillance and tightening the grip on drug and psychotropic substance distribution networks, as well as strengthening aspects of international cooperation in the field of drug and psychotropic substance control". The ministry is working to "strengthen the capacities of the security bodies through initial and continuous training and the exchange of experiences in order to deal with drug trafficking networks, including new types of narcotics not subject to international control".
Similarly, the department of Abdelouafi Laftit is working to "intensify surveillance along the coasts and the land border strip to counter attempts at international drug trafficking", and to "strengthen control at border posts and modernize their operating mechanisms by adopting advanced search and detection techniques", concludes the report.
