Morocco’s 2030 World Cup Logo Sparks Controversy Over National Identity

The Minister of National Education, Primary Education and Sports, Chakib Benmoussa, was questioned by deputies about the absence of Moroccan identity in the slogan of the 2030 World Cup that Morocco will co-host with Spain and Portugal.
Two parliamentarians have just sent a written question on this subject to Minister Chakib Benmoussa in charge of Sports, asking what measures the government is taking or plans to take to ensure the presence of Moroccan identity on the logo of the 2030 World Cup as well as the various communication materials for the sporting event.
The publication of the 2030 World Cup logo had sparked strong criticism from Moroccan internet users and sports experts who denounced the lack of Moroccan identity, recalls Hespress.
The two deputies also sent a written question to the Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication, Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid, seeking to know the strategy put in place by his department to ensure the introduction of Arabic calligraphy, Tifinagh script and other distinctive features of Moroccan culture on this logo.
