Morocco 2030: the infrastructure project accelerates

Morocco is actively preparing for the 2030 World Cup, which it is co-hosting with Spain and Portugal. The authorities have announced, for the year 2024, a 42% increase in the volume of infrastructure projects for a total amount of 64 billion dirhams ($6.3 billion).
The water, port and road sectors are affected by these infrastructure projects, which are part of the implementation of the reconstruction plan for the areas affected by the devastating earthquake of September 8 last year, and the organization of the 2030 World Cup and the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
According to Mohamed Mahboub, president of the National Federation of Building and Public Works, a significant budget will be devoted to the implementation of these projects. Regarding public institutions, $2.4 billion will be invested in the construction of hospitals, stadiums, universities and ministerial departments.
Water sector projects will benefit from an investment of $1.5 billion, while an amount of about $1.4 billion will be allocated to road construction and rehabilitation projects. As for the port and maritime transport sector, it will receive an investment of $1.1 billion.
It is also planned to build dams as well as the connection between the water basins and the seawater desalination plants. Next year, the budget allocated for the realization of these projects will reach $7.9 billion, added Mahboub, ensuring that priority will be given to national companies for the execution of the projects.
