Moroccans Support King’s Call to Forgo Eid al-Adha Celebration Amid Drought

In a message on Wednesday, King Mohammed VI invited Moroccans not to celebrate Eid al-Adha this year, due to the effects of the drought on the national livestock. A royal call widely welcomed on social media.
Moroccans have welcomed favorably the Sovereign’s message calling for abstaining from celebrating Eid al-Adha. After reading this royal message by the Minister of Endowments and Islamic Affairs, many have expressed on social media their satisfaction and gratitude to King Mohammed VI. "Thank you, His Majesty the King", "We listen and we obey", "Excellent news", "A judicious and timely decision", can be read among the comments.
"A relevant orientation from the one who is the guarantor of the interests of his country... in order to avoid embarrassment to Muslims and to close the door to corrupt speculators; let us hope that this will mitigate the excesses of the high cost of living and the consequences of the drought... ’Deeds are only worth their intentions, and each person has only what he has intended’," wrote on his Facebook page the general supervisor and scientific director of the Ibn Tachfine Institute for Studies, Research and Creativity.
For his part, Isaac Charia, the Secretary General of the Moroccan Liberal Party, expressed himself in these terms: "These big meat and imported sheep speculators... It’s time to leave, long live the King, the slayer of intermediaries and profiteers of crises". The president of the Center for Economic and Social Foresight is also delighted with this news: "His Majesty the King triumphs over the Moroccan people... No comfort for those who support speculation and monopoly".
This royal decision is "rational and realistic", also supported Mohsen Jafari, a researcher in political economy, stressing that "we are currently living the most critical period for the national livestock, after the failure of public policies in the agricultural sector that have decimated food agriculture, an aspect that cannot be ignored". The expert believes that "if the necessary measures are not taken, we will face a catastrophic situation with regard to the prices of sheep".
"Praise be to God for the institution of the Commander of the Faithful, without which the citizen would once again be the victim of the greed of market intermediaries and those in suits. The King’s decision will allow the State to save at least 200 billion centimes... nothing more," rejoiced the journalist Samir Chawqi. And for Mohammed El Ghalloussi, president of the Moroccan Association for the Protection of Public Money, to add: "The cancellation of the Eid al-Adha ritual is a wise decision that will bring joy to the poor classes in particular and cut off the road to speculators and profiteers of crises."
