Moroccans Lead in EU Citizenship Acquisitions, Eurostat Reports

Moroccans were the most naturalized in Europe in 2021. This is revealed by the public agency, Eurostat, which recently published its statistics on naturalizations.
Out of 827,000, there are 86,200 Moroccans who have obtained the citizenship of a Member State of the European Union (EU), i.e. more than 10% of all nationalities granted in the EU. 71% of them have acquired Spanish or French nationality. Moroccans are followed by Syrians (83,500 of whom 70% have acquired Swedish or Dutch nationality). Then come Albanians (32,300 people, of whom 70% have acquired Italian nationality), Romanians (28,600 of whom 33% have acquired Italian nationality) and Turks (25,700 of whom 48% have acquired German nationality).
Brazilians come in sixth place with 20,400 people, 65% of whom have acquired nationality in Portugal or Italy. They are followed by Algerians (19,300 people, 80% of whom have acquired French nationality). Russians (17,300 of whom 45% have acquired German and French nationality) and Pakistanis (16,600 of whom 62% have acquired Spanish and Italian nationality) complete the top 10.
