Moroccans in France have sent 3.4 billion euros to Morocco

The financial solidarity of Moroccans of the World (MRE) is not affected by the crisis. According to the Statistical Office of the European Union, France has established itself as the undisputed champion of remittances to the Kingdom. Last year, households residing in the Hexagon transferred no less than 3.4 billion euros (more than 36 billion dirhams) to Morocco. This is the highest outgoing flow recorded by France to a non-EU country.

Spain is not lagging behind either. The Iberian neighbor saw 1.5 billion euros transit to Morocco in 2024. The report highlights a Spanish peculiarity: 92% of the funds leaving the country are destined for economies located outside the European Union, illustrating the demographic and economic weight of extra-community immigration, mostly Moroccan, in the peninsula.

This dynamic is part of a major European trend. The overall volume of personal transfers from the EU to the rest of the world has exceeded 52 billion euros, up 6% year-on-year and especially 51% over the past five years.

While Germany remains the leading global contributor in Europe (13% of total flows, all destinations combined), followed by France (11%), it is the France-Morocco corridor that remains one of the most vital financial arteries for households in the southern Mediterranean.
