Moroccans in Europe can receive insurance payouts for accidents in Morocco
After an accident in Morocco, a Moroccan living in Europe can receive compensation owed by a Moroccan insurer abroad. The Foreign Exchange Office authorizes the transfer, provided specific supporting documents are submitted before payment.

A motorist living in France is injured during a holiday in Morocco. His claim is handled by a Moroccan insurance company, which agrees to compensate him. Once back in Europe, he can ask for the money to be transferred to his account abroad rather than having to collect it in Morocco.
Articles 123 and 124 of the General Instruction on Foreign Exchange Transactions 2026 govern the payment of compensation and expenses related to claims. Moroccan banks can make payments to non-resident beneficiaries, including MREs living in France, Belgium or the Netherlands.
This option applies to compensation awarded after a claim covered by Moroccan insurance has been processed. The amount transferred corresponds to the sum recognized by the insurer or set by a court ruling.
Documents needed to receive the money in Europe
Article 126 specifies the documents the Moroccan insurer must provide to the bank: a certificate confirming that the beneficiary resides abroad, or an equivalent document, as well as a copy of the compensation receipt signed by the person concerned or their representative.
The receipt must state the amount to be paid, the date and place of the accident, and the insurance policy details. If the compensation is awarded by a court ruling, that ruling can serve as the basis for the transfer, accompanied by proof of residence abroad.
The provision also covers annuities paid to non-residents as compensation for harm suffered. In that case, the bank requires supporting documents showing the amount and period covered by the compensation, as well as a life certificate.
For MREs driving their own cars in Morocco, the validity of their car insurance coverage remains a key concern from the outset. Once compensation has been recognized by a Moroccan insurer, the residence certificate and payment documents make it possible to arrange payment abroad.
