Moroccan Youth Trust Military and Police More Than Government, Survey Finds

In Morocco, young people have more confidence in the army, the police and the gendarmerie than in the government. This is revealed by the latest index measuring the confidence of young people in institutions, established by the Observatory of the North of Human Rights (ONDH).
Moroccan youth have confidence in the security institutions, but express growing distrust towards the elected institutions. The army institution tops the 2022 index of young people’s confidence in sovereign (non-elected) institutions with a confidence rate of 75% against 17% of distrust rate. It is followed by the National Security Institution (a positive confidence rate of 72% and a negative rate of 27%). The Royal Gendarmerie and the judiciary come in third place, with a confidence rate of 61%. The Ministry of the Interior holds the lantern, with a confidence rate of 51%, and 39% of negative opinions.
Regarding elected institutions, civil society associations stand out in a beautiful way with a positive confidence index of 64% against 30% of distrust. Then come the Moroccan media with a positive confidence rate of 42% against 53% of distrust. With a positive confidence rate of 41% against 45% of distrust, the Tangier-Tétouan-Al Hoceima region occupies the 3rd position. It is followed by local groups with a positive confidence rate of 40%, against 54% of distrust. Public education ranks 5th with a positive confidence rate of 33%, against a lack of confidence (66%).
Public health follows with a positive confidence of 23% against 76%. The Parliament ranks seventh with 21% confidence against 71%. With a confidence rate of 16%, against 80%, the current government is second to last (9th). Political parties complete the ranking with 15% favorable opinions against 80% of distrustful.
