Moroccan Workers in Qatar Face Destitution After Mass Layoffs

Fired by their employers without any compensation or salary, Moroccan nationals residing in Qatar had no choice but to go out on the street to beg.
Several Qatari companies have had to terminate their contracts with their employees, including Moroccans, placing them in a very precarious social and economic situation.
"We are in a very critical situation, to the point that the majority have had to resort to charity on the main boulevards to survive," laments a Moroccan worker, laid off for 3 months, without having received a salary or compensation.
"I tried to contact the Moroccan embassy in Qatar and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs without success. Only a group of workers was able to receive a small symbolic aid," he added.
Despite their precarious situation and abusive dismissal, the victims say they are unable to file their request with the Ministry of Employment, for fear of being expelled from the country.
