Moroccan Woman Jailed for Scamming Hairdressers with Fake Job Offers

A Moroccan residing in Saudi Arabia was sentenced by the court of first instance in Meknes to eight months of actual imprisonment and a fine of 4,000 dirhams. She was accused of having defrauded four hairdressers in the city.
The woman in her forties had dangled the prospect of employment contracts in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait to her victims. In exchange for these promises, she had asked them for sums of money, reaching up to 100,000 dirhams per person.
As the contracts never materialized, the four hairdressers filed a complaint. The investigation revealed that the accused had demanded these payments under the pretext of facilitating the obtainment of the promised jobs.
The defendant was arrested at the Fès-Saïs airport as she was trying to leave the national territory. A warrant had been issued against her.
During the trial, the court indicated that it had taken into account the social and family situation of the defendant, as well as her lack of a criminal record, to determine the sentence. The woman was found guilty of fraud.
