Moroccan Woman Dies in Childbirth After Lack of Ambulance Forces Cart Transport

In the absence of an ambulance to take her to the hospital in Essaouira, a woman lost her life giving birth to her newborn in a cart, last Monday evening.
According to the testimony of the community activist, Abderrahim Souileh, the victim was taken by surprise, jostled by the jolts of the cart, forcing her to give birth to her baby before arriving at the Talmest health center, where no one was on duty.
"After a long wait, and without any nurse to accompany her, she died in the ambulance that was taking her to the Essaouira hospital. The newborn survived the disastrous delivery," added the vice-president of the Committee of Public Spaces and Services within the municipality.
For the community activist, "the center has a delivery room and a maternity ward that have never been made available to the women of the region. They are increasingly avoiding getting pregnant."
