Moroccan Wedding Traditions: Inside a Lavish Multi-Day Celebration in Fez

Traditional Moroccan weddings embody exceptional splendor where the bride lives a true tale of the thousand and one nights. At the heart of these sumptuous ceremonies, which can last for several days, the festivities require preparation of several months.
Yousra and Othman, a couple living in France, chose to respect this tradition by celebrating their union in Fez, the bride’s hometown. They hired a neggafa, Salwa, responsible for orchestrating these most important days of their lives, a role combining the talents of a wedding planner and a confidante, explains the DW channel in a report.
The scene is nothing less than fairy-tale: the families invest in the search for the essential elements for the traditional henna ceremony, a foretaste of the grandiose festivities to come. The souk becomes their hunting ground, items like incense and henna being essential to respect the customs. While the hall where the wedding will take place is carefully selected, the stakes go beyond the simple celebration, touching on the prestige and honor of the family.
