Moroccan Watchdog Group Files Lawsuit Over Taghazout Bay Tourism Project Scandal

Following the suspicions of "embezzlement and waste" weighing on the managers of the Taghazout Bay project, the Moroccan Association for the Protection of Public Property (AMPBP) filed a complaint with the Attorney General of the Court of Appeal of Marrakech.
The association, led by Mohamed Ghallousi, is at war against the managers of the Taghazout Bay tourist development project in the city of Agadir. According to the president of the Marrakech South section of the AMPBP, Safi Eddine Boudali, the association has been following the project for years and decided to intervene with the justice system after the report of the General Inspectorate of the Ministry of the Interior which led to the decision to suspend the construction sites of Taghazout Bay and to destroy non-compliant constructions with the law relating to urban planning (n°12-90).
In a statement to H24infos, the AMPBP indicated in its complaint that the project has experienced "imbalances and violations of the law relating to urban planning" as well as "influence peddling". It also argues that "the public funds (400 MDH) spent on this project would have been misappropriated, then squandered".
In its request, the Association has highlighted the suspicions of forgery and use of forgery and falsification of urban planning documents related to this major tourist project. To this end, the AMPBP has asked the Attorney General to "give his instructions to the competent judicial police in order to conduct the necessary investigations".
In this embezzlement case, the complaint requires the hearing of the Wali of the Souss Massa (Draa) region, the manager during the project preparation period, the associates, namely the legal representatives of CDG Développement, the Moroccan Tourism Development Fund (FMDT), the Sud Partners group and the Moroccan Tourism Engineering Company (SMIT).
