Moroccan Victims Allege Intimidation in Insurance Tycoon's Sex Abuse Scandal

The former employees of the Assu 2000 insurance group, in Morocco, claim to be under strong pressure from the entourage of Jacques Bouthier, prosecuted for "human trafficking" and "rape of minors".

Even behind bars, Jacques Bouthier continues to pull the strings. Those who dared to reveal the modus operandi of the system set up in the Tangier call center are currently facing an intimidation campaign aimed at forcing them to drop the complaints filed against the boss. "A month after joining [the company], he touched my shoulder, Nour recalls. He slid his hand towards my chest, saying in the name of heaven, what a beautiful beauty, what a beautiful chest, in front of everyone. Every time, he comes and does his round as the boss. It’s like at the market. If there’s one he likes, he’ll go straight to the managers."

Jacques Bouthier is suspected of having set up a network of sexual predation in his Tangier call center in Morocco. Samia worked at Assu 2000 in Tangier. She is one of the women who filed a complaint against the man she describes as a real sexual predator. "I received a call on my work phone, it was Jacques Bouthier. He tells me he wants to receive photos of me, without clothes, naked. I tell him no. Then he asks me to find someone else, a little sister, a cousin or a girlfriend," she explains to Franceinfo.

The young woman confides that she reported the situation to the company’s managers, who completely trivialized it as if it was nothing surprising. "I reported it to the director of acquisitions. He smiled and told me it’s Jacques. We all know him." She points out that since then, the lives of Jacques Bouthier’s Moroccan victims have become a nightmare.

"Since the press conference, we have been under pressure. They say they have files to leak on us, that I’m a schizophrenic. They even called my mother and summoned her to tell her that I was a whore. They sent people to my house. They went through a local newspaper in Tangier to give a good image of Jacques Bouthier. I have recordings where the commercial manager comes to see me in a cafe to tell me that he is nice but that next time, I will have to deal with the bad guys from France."

Despite the intimidation and pressure, the victims in Tangier are determined to go all the way. They urge other women who are afraid of retaliation to come out of the shadows and make themselves known. "Speak up, please, file a complaint! We are here for you. As you will be there for us. We will remain in solidarity. They can say what they want. They can spread the rumors they want. We know that we are not lying, we are serene, we have evidence and we want justice to be done," Samia concludes.
