Moroccan Urban Traffic Accidents Leave 5 Dead, Over 1,700 Injured in One Week

Five people were killed and 1,709 others were injured, including 80 seriously, in 1,265 traffic accidents that occurred in urban areas during the week of August 10 to 16.
The General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), in a press release on Tuesday, indicated that "these accidents are due, among other things, to driver inattention, failure to yield the right-of-way, speeding, failure to maintain a safe distance, pedestrian inattention, unauthorized lane changes and loss of control".
Regarding control and repression operations, "the security services recorded 38,084 violations and drew up 11,060 reports" which were submitted to the public prosecutor’s office. There were also 27,024 transactional fines that were collected.
As for the amounts collected, they reached 5,421,475 dirhams, indicates the DGSN. It emphasizes "the impounding of 4,944 vehicles, the seizure of 5,970 documents and the withdrawal from circulation of 146 vehicles".
