Moroccan Tycoon’s Son Jailed for Insulting Police Officer During Pandemic Checkpoint

The son of a businessman was sentenced, on Thursday, May 7, to two months in prison for insulting a security officer. He had been arrested at an administrative checkpoint in the town of Mellaliyine, halfway between Tétouan and M’diq, in a luxury vehicle, then released after spending ten days in detention for violating the state of health emergency.
"Ouled Lefchouch", "the spoiled child of Tétouan", had not completely gotten off the hook. The court of first instance in Tétouan sentenced this son of a well-known businessman in the region to a sentence of two months in prison and a fine of 1,000 dirhams for insulting a police officer. He will also have to pay 10,000 dirhams in damages to the police officer who joined the civil party.
The young man had been acquitted at the first instance trial. He had just spent ten days in detention for violating the state of health emergency. The outrage that this judgment had provoked led the public prosecutor to appeal, reports Al Akhbar. This time, he is being prosecuted for insulting an officer in the performance of his duties.
What next? According to the same source, several notables and businessmen in the locality tried to convince the police officer to withdraw his complaint. They were met with the officer’s categorical refusal. The verdict is in: the young man will spend two months behind bars.
