Moroccan Truckers Threaten National Strike Over Soaring Fuel Costs

Exasperated by the continuous rise in fuel prices and the government’s refusal to grant them more subsidies, the coordination of trade unions of freight transport professionals threatens to organize a national strike after the celebration of Eid Al-Adha.
Professionals in the transport sector are upset by the "continuous and unprecedented" rise in fuel prices. For the unions, the lack of significant support to cap fuel prices "at levels affordable to all professionals" is an additional reason that justifies this new threat of strike, a statement from the coordination points out.
At least five unions are involved in this new threat of protest, which aims to force the government’s hand for an increase in the subsidy that had already been granted to them. They denounce a "passivity" and call for action to save the sector, which seems to be in the hands of a small group. The statement from the coordination serves as a warning, and a lack of reaction will lead to a national strike, the date of which will be set after Eid Al-Adha.
