Moroccan Truckers Stranded at Mauritania Border Plead for Aid Amid Supply Crisis

Around 200 Moroccan truckers find themselves blocked at the Guerguerat border crossing between Mauritania and the Sahara. Desperate, they are calling on the Moroccan authorities for help.
Moroccan truckers say they are blocked on the Mauritanian side by "militias affiliated with separatists" on the road leading up from Mauritania and West Africa, according to a statement published by the Mauritanian news agency Alwiam. They claim they no longer have supplies of water, food and medicine.
Faced with the situation, the truckers are calling on Morocco and Mauritania to "work to resolve the crisis" and unblock supplies. They are also calling on the UN to "play its role in protecting the buffer zone and the border post that allows the passage of thousands of drivers, farmers and traders".
Despite the instructions of the UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, the buffer zone continues to experience high tension between Morocco and the Polisario Front.
