Moroccan Transport Minister’s Luxury Car Purchase Sparks Controversy

The Minister of Transport and Logistics, Abdessamad Kayouh, has launched a tender for the purchase of a new official car worth around 600,000 dirhams.
The successor of Mohamed Abdeljalil wants to buy a BMW 520i, Elegance version. The opening of the bids for this market was scheduled for Tuesday, February 18. The tender specifies the characteristics of the luxury vehicle: maximum speed, 230 km/h; power, 11 horsepower; color, metallic black, and rear curtains.
According to the terms of the contract, the successful bidder undertakes to provide, after delivery of the vehicle, a manufacturer’s warranty certificate for a period of two (2) years or until the car reaches 100,000 kilometers. The warranty covers spare parts as well as labor costs in the event of manufacturing defects.
To recall, former minister Mohamed Abdeljalil had launched an international tender in October last for the acquisition of vehicles, including two Hyundai Tucson Prestige Plus, 16 Citroën Berlingo, 15 Citroën C-Elysée, 8 Skoda Octavia, and 4 Toyota Corolla Prestige 140, in violation of the Prime Minister’s circular on austerity in expenditure.
