Moroccan Tourist Faces 10-Year Sentence for Mexico City Art Museum Graffiti

A young Moroccan was arrested in Mexico for drawing graffiti on the facade of the Palace of Fine Arts in the capital. He faces a sentence of up to 10 years in prison.
The legal department of the National Institute of Fine Arts and Literature filed a complaint with the Attorney General’s Office against the 21-year-old Moroccan. In addition to the 10-year sentence he faces, he could pay a fine, the amount of which will be determined based on the damage caused to the property.
In accordance with Article 52 of the Federal Law on Historical and Artistic Monuments and Archaeological Sites, damage to buildings such as those of the Fine Arts listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites is punishable by a sentence of two to 10 years in prison.
