Moroccan Toddler Abandoned in Syrian Refugee Camp After Mother’s Abduction

The Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Bourita, was questioned by the Secretary General of the Party of Authenticity and Modernity (PAM), Abdellatif Wahbi, about the fate of a young Moroccan woman, who disappeared in Syria under mysterious circumstances. Her 3-year-old daughter has been abandoned in the refugee camp.
The fate of Amal Belfid, born in Tetouan in 1987, has been a concern since her recent abduction in a Syrian camp, leaving behind her 3-year-old daughter, Maria. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been seized of the matter through correspondence from the political party.
The young Moroccan woman would have been subjected to physical torture and violence during her abduction, said the PAM member, citing sources on the ground. Even less is known about the fate of the little girl, abandoned and alone, in the camp.
"Based on the rights granted by the Constitution and international documents to Moroccan citizens, and the government’s responsibility towards them, we call on you to take the measures and steps you intend to take with the Red Crescent and the relevant authorities to clarify this matter and repatriate the person concerned and her little girl," the secretary general stressed in his letter.
