Moroccan Textile Association Sues to Block Turkish Imports, Fashion Show

The Moroccan Association of Textile and Clothing Industries (AMITH) has taken the matter to court to prevent the holding of the 7th edition of the International Textile and Fashion Show in Casablanca.

This approach comes following accusations by AMITH against a Turkish company and its representative in Morocco, as well as against the Association of Medium and Small Textile and Clothing Enterprises, reports Hespress, specifying that AMITH accuses these entities of flooding the Moroccan market with Turkish products, thus creating what it considers unfair competition.

The complaint, filed with the Casablanca Commercial Court, also raises a dispute over the use of a trademark similar to that of AMITH by the organizers of the show. The decision of the latter to organize the event took the Moroccan professional association by surprise, which sees in this initiative a potential threat to its members.

Furthermore, AMITH expresses its concerns about the economic repercussions of this show. According to the association, the event would favor the saturation of the national market with Turkish and Asian finished products, thus harming the national economy and particularly the large Moroccan textile companies. The complaint filed for unfair competition aims to protect the interests of AMITH members in the face of this situation, which is considered an imminent threat.
