Moroccan Teen Arrested for $3,800 Necklace Theft After Mother Aids Police

An 18-year-old Moroccan young man was indicted for having stolen a necklace worth 3,500 € in Béziers. The defendant, thanks to the collaboration of his mother, was arrested and sentenced to 18 months in prison.
Acts of delinquency by unaccompanied minors have been on the rise in recent weeks in Béziers. The latest case involving a snatching of a gold necklace was quickly resolved thanks to the collaboration of the victim’s mother.
The latter, living in Morocco, had to provide the investigators with her son’s birth certificate to confirm his majority. In doing so, the 18-year-old young man was unmasked.
Denying the facts he was accused of, he finally admitted them after watching the video recorded by the 73-year-old victim’s wife. To justify himself, the defendant explained that he had torn off this necklace to meet his needs.
Finally sentenced to 18 months in prison, the young defendant was placed in custody. As an additional penalty, the Béziers Court ordered that he be permanently banned from French territory upon his release from detention.
