Moroccan Study: Sinopharm COVID Vaccine Shows Over 70% Efficacy, Prevents Severe Cases

The Sinopharm vaccine, one of the first used in Morocco as part of the vaccination campaign against Covid, is over 70% effective, according to the results of a study conducted on 25,768 people, 47.2% of whom are women.
All those who received the Sinopharm vaccine are protected from the serious complications of Covid-19 throughout the first 9 months after vaccination, the study conducted in Morocco states, also noting that the risk of hospitalization for these people is completely reduced.
This study "aims to estimate the effectiveness of the inactivated Sinopharm vaccine, deployed in Morocco to reduce the risk of hospitalization following a severe SARS-CoV-2 infection in the 9 months following vaccination." According to the researchers, the vaccine’s effectiveness varies depending on the number of doses received. "Covid-19 hospitalizations peaked in the first month and remain high for the first three months after the second dose (87-90%). However, they decrease slightly in the fourth month (75%) and stabilize around 60% beyond the fifth month," they stressed.
Similarly, the vaccine’s effectiveness is 80% during the first month after the second dose injection, in people over 60 years of age. It is respectively 85% and 78% during the second and third months. It is also 53% during the fifth month and 66% during the following months.
As for people under 60, they are the luckiest with an effectiveness of 88% during the first month, 90% during the second and third months, 84% during the fourth, and 72% during the fifth and 70% beyond the sixth.
