Moroccan Students Face Prison After Arrest for Same-Sex Relations

The elements of the Judicial Police of Safi arrested two students caught in the act of homosexuality. They risk up to three years in prison.
According to the daily Assabah, two students were found in a rather dubious posture. The scene took place in an abandoned house in the Jnane El Fssyane region. The two men had settled in the place, while leaving their motorcycle outside.
While members of the auxiliary forces were patrolling the area, they spotted the parked motorcycle, which prompted them to take a closer look. They then decided to alert the police before raiding the house. On their arrival, the law enforcement officers caught the two young men in the act of homosexual intercourse.
Arrested for homosexuality and public drunkenness, the defendants were taken into custody and face heavy sentencing by the courts, details the same source. Indeed, in Morocco, homosexuality is punished under Article 489 of the Penal Code with a sentence of six months to three years in prison and a fine of 1,000 dirhams.
