Moroccan Student Returning from France Has 60 Days to Transfer Remaining Funds
A Moroccan student returning home after studying in France must close the foreign account opened to cover study expenses. The balance must be brought back to Morocco within 60 days of the return, according to the Office des Changes.

Classes are over, the apartment has been handed back and the return ticket is booked. But €900 remains in the bank account used during studies in France. For a student returning to settle in Morocco, that money is subject to a specific deadline under foreign-exchange regulations.

Article 146 of the General Instruction on Foreign Exchange Transactions 2026 authorizes students to open an account abroad to pay tuition, living and housing expenses. It provides for the account to be closed at the end of the stay and the balance to be repatriated to Morocco, with conversion on the foreign-exchange market.
The deadline is 60 days from the date of return to Morocco. A student returning on November 1 must therefore arrange the transfer within the following 60 days. The amount concerned is the balance remaining in the account used under the study abroad scheme.
Returning to Morocco starts the countdown
This obligation is particularly relevant for families that have funded the account from Morocco. To pay rent, everyday expenses or university fees, the regulations allow Moroccan banks to make transfers to the student or to certain authorized beneficiaries.
A student who continues their stay in France after graduating is in a different situation: the text expressly sets the start of the 60-day period as the date of their return to Morocco. That date determines the repatriation deadline.
Another deadline may apply before departure. When the rental deposit was funded by a transfer from Morocco, it must be repatriated within 60 days of the end of the lease, or used to pay any rent and charges still due.

Before closing their French account, the student must plan for the final expenses, collect any sums still owed and arrange to transfer the remaining balance to Morocco. The regulations then require these foreign currencies to be sold on the foreign-exchange market.
