Moroccan Strawberry Pickers Begin Return from Spain as Borders Reopen

The 7,100 Moroccan seasonal workers stranded in Huelva since the end of the strawberry season a month ago, due to the closure of the Moroccan borders, will be able to start returning to the country this week, in waves and by sea.
The first repatriation flight of Moroccan seasonal workers will take place next Saturday from the port of Huelva with about 1,200 women, according to the agricultural organization UPA.
This was made possible thanks to an agreement between the Moroccan government and the Spanish authorities. In accordance with this agreement, the Moroccan government will carry out PCR tests on these women and provide the logistics and transportation.
According to sources from the Interprofesional Andaluza de la Fresa y los Frutos Rojos (Intrefresa), PCR tests have already begun to be carried out on these women in various health centers in the province.
The repatriations will continue from Monday, until the departure of all the seasonal workers, the UPA specified, which welcomes this solution proposed by Morocco that it considers "more coherent" than those proposed so far, such as a return by air or via ports in France or Italy.
