Moroccan Socialist Party MP Faces Trial in Major Corruption Case

The USFP (Union Socialiste des Forces Populaires) parliamentarian representing the Nador constituency will soon be tried for corruption. He will appear before the Chamber of Financial Crimes near the Court of Appeal of Fez alongside his son and other defendants.

Corruption, falsification of official documents, undue issuance of authorizations and administrative certificates, abuse of power, construction of housing estates without authorization or building permit on public domains, etc. These are the charges against the socialist parliamentarian from the Nador constituency, his son, the mayor of a commune, and two of his deputies, as well as an official, a technician and a farmer, reports the Arabic-language daily Al Ahdath Al Maghribia. They are all being prosecuted on provisional release after posting bail ranging from 100,000 to 250,000 dirhams. After a postponement, the hearing is scheduled for June 6. The defendants who did not appear before the court are expected at the bar. They must respond to the requests of the civil party and the judicial agent of the kingdom.

It all started with investigations carried out by the National Brigade of the Judicial Police (BNPJ) and initiated on October 31, 2021. It reveals irregularities in the management of the commune chaired by the parliamentarian’s son, particularly in the field of urban planning. These dysfunctions were the subject of several reports by the General Inspection of Territorial Administration under the Ministry of the Interior, it is reported.
