Moroccan Small Businesses Urge End to Night Curfew as Sales Plummet

Faced with poor sales and a drop in their turnover, small businesses are demanding the lifting of the night curfew and the establishment of local and regional commissions to monitor the situation of businesses.

The curfew imposed by the El Othmani government is not unanimous among merchants. After cafe owners and SME representatives, small businesses are crying out in frustration and protesting against the night curfew that has been in place for months, reports Al Ahdath Al Maghribia.

In a letter addressed to the head of government, the National Association of Independent Merchants pleads for the removal of this anti-Covid measure to save their activities, which have been heavily impacted by the coronavirus. For these merchants, the curfew is causing them significant losses. In the same letter, the merchants demanded the reasoned reopening of economic and commercial activities while respecting barrier gestures.

These small merchants wish that the government respond to their legitimate expectations, restore confidence in the national market, in national and domestic investment and create a development rebound in accordance with the royal instructions. They also believe that if the government responded to their requests, it could have positive effects on a large part of the population.

They also call for the establishment of local and regional commissions responsible for monitoring the commercial situation, which must work for a good climate for market stability, so that they can regain their pre-crisis activity levels and thus contribute to the national economy.
